Set Up Membership Types

Membership types define the different kinds of memberships your club offers. Setting these up properly helps you segment members, create targeted discounts, ticket types, and communication strategies.

Many clubs choose a single annual membership, which works well too!

Tip: It’s best to set up a new membership type each year rather than editing existing ones to avoid affecting current members.

Key Considerations

  • Member Type: You might offer free memberships for current students and paid ones for alumni, or tiered memberships like Gold/Silver/Bronze with different benefits.

  • Membership Period: Choose a time frame such as 6 months or 12 months. Yearly memberships are most popular.

Creating a Membership Type

  1. Go to Memberships from the top menu.

  2. Select Membership Types.

  3. Click the Create Membership button. Decide if it’s a standard membership or bundled with merchandise.

  4. Fill in the details:

    • Name of membership type: For example, “Engineering Society 2025.”

    • Membership Validity: Select a time frame or custom date range. Memberships outside this period won’t be available for purchase.

    • Price: Enter 0 for free memberships.

    • Description: Detail benefits, mission, activities, perks, etc.

    • Required Information: Name, email, and phone number are required fields.

    • Custom Questions: Add any extra info you need from members.

    • Terms & Conditions: Include any relevant policies.

    • Manual Membership Approval: If enabled, all memberships will be pending approval until your society manually approves them. Note: This setting cannot be changed after the membership type is created.

  5. Click Add Membership Type to save.

Editing a Membership Type

To update an existing membership type, head to Memberships > Membership Types and locate the right membership type in the list. Click the triple dots (⋮), and select Edit.

Deleting a Membership Type

Inactive memberships won’t be available for purchase. To remove a type, click the triple dots (⋮) next to it and choose Delete.

Warning: This action is irreversible. Deleting a membership type will also permanently remove all members linked to that membership type.
